At Outdoor Ecuador Spanish School, we combine oral communication with theoretical teaching and learning methods, where grammar exercises are implemented to benefit the level of communication.
Our classes implement the use of the skills necessary for learning a new language. As well as oral expression and interaction, we employ writing, reading and listening exercises to encourage a better scope of the language, our school makes use of a wide range of educational resources, including some of our own materials to allow us to assess the level of each student, accurately. We also make use of real written and oral samples and encourage students to utilize in-house resources such as Spanish radio podcasts, flyers, and more.
Each of our outdoor classrooms is surrounded by gardens and fruit trees and sometimes we can enjoy the company of the iguanas that live around. Outdoor learning allows students to cultivate an appreciation for nature and the environment by allowing them to think playfully and spontaneously while learning and enjoy the warm climate that the coast offers us depending on the seasons.
The nationality and age mix at Outdoor Ecuador Spanish & Surf School varies over different time periods, courses and levels. Throughout the year, the average age is 35. In the summer, the average age is 22.

Our school is ideally located just two blocks from the main beach in the heart of Olón. This quaint coastal town is nestled on the Pacific coast, 2.5 hours north of Guayaquil airport and just 5 minutes from the lively surf town of Montañita. The beach boasts wide, sandy shores with excellent surf conditions, featuring both left and right beach breaks. The beachfront promenade offers a range of amenities, including restaurants, kiosks, sun loungers, and shaded areas. Olón is a growing village with an increasing number of restaurants each year, yet it retains its serene and authentic charm. It's the perfect place to explore an amazing country, immerse yourself in the language, and connect with your inner self. :)
Overall I had an amazing experience at Outdoor Ecuador. The classroom was great, I really enjoyed the 'outside' aspect of the classroom and loved the layout of the reception area. The location of the school was centrally located in the town and an easy 2 minute walk from the guesthouse. I absolutely loved my cabana at Ocean Blue. The owner, Elizabeth, has a huge heart and really went out of her way to make me feel at home. I loved the proximity of the beach to the guesthouse as well. The teachers at Outdoor Ecuador were great and very flexible to my needs. I really enjoyed all the weekly activities, and appreciated the enthusiasm shown by the teachers. I really feel that my overall experience was very positive. I went to this school during the "winter" season and therefore was the only student, but I really feel that that made my experience even better. The one-on-one aspect of student-teacher really helped me gain confidence when speaking and the classes were tailored to meet my needs.
When searching for a school, I specifically searched for "schools in Montanita" and it was not until a week before my course, when I went to check on the address of the school, when I realized that the school was not located in Montanita, but in a completely different town. I feel like the location of the school should not be advertised as "in Montanita" because Olon (the town where the school is actually located) is the complete opposite of Montanita.
I really liked school. Luis was an excellent and patient teacher. The school environment was wonderful. Accommodation in Ocean Blue Lodge 20m from the beach was not a mistake. I was here for 3 weeks and I really learned something. The school helped me test for coronavirus on the way home.

This place is such a gem. We walked along the beach every morning to class, we saw dolphins and surfers and one morning we were treated to turtles hatching.... all on the way to Spanish class. It was the best education you could ever ask for a child. The classrooms are open air, so the ocean breeze flows through. The class sizes were 2-3 kids and Yvonne always kept us updated on what the kids were learning so we could practice what he was learning that week. We were in a new country with new experiences and meeting the people at Outdoor Ecuador immediately made us feel comfortable. They treated us like family. Yvonne and Vago have beautiful vibe at the school, I wish that every North American child could experience that kind of hospitality and service.

I studied for 2 weeks with two of their teachers, and both were awesome. The classes are tucked within some serious green space / gardens, and only 2 blocks from the ocean, so you feel like you are in the heart of paradise at all times - even when your studying.
Vago is one of the teachers, yet he is also in charge of the surf side of things at OE. We pretty much surfed together each day, which was the best part of Olon. There are waves every single day, and the beach is by far the best i seen along the entire coast.
Tons of cool restaurants, only 1 minute to the thriving and bumping Montanita party town, a relaxing energy, and the coolest hidden gem to post up in for a few weeks.
Check out the Outdoor family and their location, and im sure you will love the time spent just like i did - and like i wish i could get back!!!! :)
