More about studying in Nottingham »
You might not meet Robin Hood himself if you decide to go to an English school in Nottingham, but chances are you won't be able to escape signs of him. Inhabited since at least the year 600, Nottingham has a long and fascinating history just waiting for you to discover it once classes are over, along with a vibrant modern-day scene you're not likely to forget. There's ice hockey, water sports, cricket and rugby ready to entertain the sports-minded visitor, but more importantly there's football – with two high-profile clubs in town, you might want to be careful declaring a preference for one or the other. And for other entertainment, well, the big names in music come to Nottingham's 10,000-seat Arena, so you're unlikely to be disappointed there, especially with all the other ventures available to less mainstream acts. Several ensembles cater to those with a taste for classical music, while Rock City and other clubs are well-known for their patronage of indie groups. There's also a strong selection of museums with exhibits for all tastes – and you won't want to miss the Sky Mirror, the six-meter wide concave dish that reflects the changing sky outside the theatre in Wellington Circus. When it starts to et dark and the sky loses its interest, well, just pop into the theatre – there's always something interesting on. And if you need to relax with a pint when class is done, fear not – you can go visit what claims to be the oldest still-functioning pub in England, the Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem.
