The Standard Course focuses on learning and actively using language structures – this way the instruction is very much practice oriented. But what does this actually mean? Your teacher will assign you an active role while studying German and will draw you and your fellow students directly into his interactive instruction. We try to avoid that you just sit there passively, listening what the teacher is going to explain up front. Your teacher will help you studying the language by instructing you clearly and thus enabling you to develop and to explain grammatical rules and structures on your own and independently. Because only when you actively understand what you’ve learned you will also memorize and internalize it permanently!
In the Standard Course, German language will always be practiced and taught in context by using as far as possible authentic, everyday life language situations. This way you will study language in everyday, professional and university situations – after all, you study towards a well-defined goal and you want to focus on that from the very beginning. Through this practical orientation of the Standard Course, already after a very short time you will gain a solid linguistic basis for making yourself more familiar with the language and culture in Germany, with the country and its people. And this will be true for all areas of modern life, because our modern didactical approach will always concentrate on listening, reading, speaking and writing.
Requirements
Aside from a decent knowledge of German language you will also need the permission of the Central Employment Office (ZAV) for going on practical training in Germany. As long as you are at least 18 years old and citizen of the EC, of the United States of America, Switzerland, Japan or of Australia, we can arrange for an internship position that will start after you have finished your German course. For all other nationalities the possibilities for going on internship in Germany are limited. However, in case you are enrolled at a university in your home country as a regular student and as long as the internship will be related to your field of studies, the training will usually be permitted.
Course Content
Make more of your studies: Optimize your language stay in Germany and continue your studies after finishing the German course with an internship at a German company! Here you get the chance to apply what you’ve just learned in class first hand. Besides, you gain important work experience that’ll look good on your CV and increase your career opportunities. There are 2 program varieties: First, a qualified internship position in a variety of fields such as architecture, book keeping, design or tourism. For this kind of internship an excellent knowledge of German language will be required (completed B2 level). If you intend to get work experience in a hotel or restaurant, reaching the B1 level will be sufficient.
We will try to find you an internship position according to your professional expertise and interests. However, this might not always be possible at the particular course location. We also cannot exactly guarantee that you’ll get an internship position at a particular company or in a very specialized field. In this case we suggest an alternative, i.e. an internship in a related professional field. All internships offered will not be paid – some companies, however, will give you some pocket money! In case of earlier discontinuance of the internship, the internship fee will not be reimbursed.

When I ask him for help I feel like he is very lazy to answer or write down sentences.
Berlin was awesome place to visit. The course that i attended was average level. The teachers can be better.
Show details » Read more...The experienced was great. Teachers are very patient and clear when they are explaining. Housing was also comfortable and my guest family was very friendly. The only detail was that you do not start a new course when you arrive and it's confusing to get into a class that has already began also, the schedule changes a lot during summer and due to the very hot weather the last two weeks were kind of tedious because classrooms got very hot and it was very hard to actually focus in the class. The school did not give me the certificate that was supposed to gave me. Over all, I think it was good experience.
Show details » Read more...I think that almost everything was great. Only one thing that could be improved on was the group size. There was a day when a lot of the students left and there were only four of us left and it was absolutely great. Later on some students arrived then there was about 14 students of them so there wasn't that much opportunity to speak.

Homestay was wonderful.
School is located in a good place. There is a cheap canteen close to the school.
The school provides students with free Wi-Fi.
Teachers good, location good, classes good. I was only there five days, and I was well received.
Show details » Read more...Housing was excellent. My hostess probably helped me as much as the school. Walking distance was useful.
The school helped with grammar, especially. Teachers were involved and interested in us.
I am almost 90 and my prior learning was from a computer course. They made too much fuss over these items.
The student body from all over the world was a very friendly part of the experience.
I am back to the computer and little conversations with a few family members that are fluent in German. If I don't keep improving, I would consider going back for a few months.
All in all it was very good. Classes gave me opportunity to get to know a lot of vocabulary. The teachers were motivating people to speak up. I felt very good. School was very helpful with every kind of problem. I liked the trips organized by the institute. Location was also a big advantage.
Show details » Read more...The classes were really good. I learned a lot because it was more practical than writing. The teachers were really friendly and patient, they always wanted to help and they cleared all of my doubts. The people I met there was really interesting and from all parts of the world--I had a great time with them. The housing was excellent, the woman treated me very well and she was always attending us. The school had cheap trips, which were really nice and the guides knew everything about it.
Show details » Read more...I had 4 teachers during these two months; 2 of them were really good, and the other 2 were regular. The school was good for me because I do not need German for my job or my studies--I was learning it just as a hobby--but if I would need it for work or something, I think it's not as good. I don't think they prepare the students properly for the test.
Show details » Read more...I've enjoyed a lot of things at the school. It was a 5 minute walk from my house, very clean, and pleasant. I had three teachers and each one of them had their own way of explaining things, dealing with the students, and teaching us German. I loved Wolfgang! He is cultured, funny, and an excellent teacher! I think that I have improved my German quite a lot, but will get a better idea when I go to Vienna for a month this summer. I plan to go to school there as well, and will see how I manage it and at which level they will place me. The only down side of the school is that I had registered for the first month in the Internet and paid by credit card, but when I decided to stay another month, I had to book again online because the school didn't accept credit cards but only cash. That was quite inconvenient! Thank you very much and hope to go back if I decide to return to Berlin in the Winter 2013. Ana Carolina

The school is located in a very central area, next to the underground station, so it's very easy to reach. The teachers are all very nice, lively and very good prepared to help lots of foreigners. I didn't need housing, nor I made activities.
I am very satisfied of my choice.
I thought everything was very well organized. I liked how we got to experience class with many different professors. It was a great experience especially learning a language with others also new to the langauge without english as a common language.
Show details » Read more...I needed this course in order to improve my German, and I think I really succeded in doing so.
Unfortunately, I made only three weeks and it is not enough, of course. Classes were very well organised, teachers were all young and very lively, and this is one of the most important things.
Location is pretty good, near Friedrichstrasse and very very easy to reach.
I didn't take part at any of the DID activities, so I can't say anything about it.
The only "negative" thing has been the price, maybe a bit high.
Generally speaking, I'm quite satisfied, it is a very good school to attend.
Good teachers
Not very good access to computers, dictionaries or books
Good extracurricular activities
Lodging arranged independently
Impact of courses very much dependent on motivation of other students
