Course description

Taking flamenco classes in Spain is an ideal way to compliment your Spanish course. Please note they can't be booked separately (without a language course)

Flamenco is an internationally recognized art form that was declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2010.

Originating in Andalusia, flamenco origins can be traced back to the fusion of various musical styles by the gypsies who have propelled the preservation and dissemination of flamenco around the world.

The flamenco course in Spain will introduce students to the song, dance and music that make up this artistic expression. Discover the passion and wide range of emotions that are expressed by the performer through complex techniques of foot stomping and hand clapping.

The flamenco course is taught at an academy by professional flamenco dance teachers who will adapt to your dance level whether you have studied flamenco in the past or not. The content is flexible and can be adapted to students' schedules and language level.

don Quijote offers salsa dancing classes as an extracurricular course so that our students can embrace one of the most famous dances in the world and immerse themselves in the local rhythm.

Originating from a fusion of Cuban and Caribbean styles, over time salsa has incorporated African percussion, American jazz, the Spanish guitar and other Latin American influences. The result is a dynamic, spicy, energetic and intense music that can also be slow, sensual and romantic. Salsa is normally danced with a partner but can also be danced alone.

The term “salsa” is an umbrella term used to describe many different genres of salsa including mambo, guaracha, son montuno, bolero and chachachá from Cuba as well as many non-Cuban beats such as bomba, plena, merengue and cumbia. Salsa is is highly known throughout the world, especially in Latin America and the United States. It has also become widely popular in countries like Germany, Israel, Spain, Japan, Portugal, France, Italy, and many more.

The salsa course will be taught by a professional dance teacher and will adapt to the students’ dance and Spanish levels. Please note that salsa dance lessons are often given in the late evening and soft-soled comfortable shoes are required.

"Nice people. Poor teaching"

Pauline Hoyle, student from New Zealand

The location of the school is good. The actual building is pleasant but I could have been anywhere in Europe. Virtually Nothing in any of the teaching rooms about Valencia or Spain or aids to support learning. The only thing I really got from the two weeks was a better ear off of the language which you’d expect from 2 weeks in a country..

The teachers were very pleasant but their understanding and use of teaching strategies to support learning was extremely limited making the quality of teaching extremely poor. It felt like pre 1970’s teaching techniques concentrating on coverage not if developing understanding and a poor use of appropriate teaching techniques to scaffold and support learning.

The most adventurous techniques were two colours on a whiteboard ( not electronic) and listening to a recording of a converstaion(10mins in over 50 hours of classes!) without techniques to support the listening . Interaction was limited to some pair and small group work but not well structured to balance learners skills and needs and hence support learning.

As a professional trainer if teachers, I was appalled at the extremely limited understanding and use of teaching strategies to support learning. A very disappointing experience

"Something I will certainly do again...."

Sylvie Gorse, student from Canada

The teachers were very good and serious... something we can’t say about the young students. Sleeping on their table, speaking in english ( convenient but it was not the aim....) it was the worse thing for me. The almost killed the atmosphere.
Otherwise the classes were very effective. I learned a lot. The groups were small, better to talk.
I haven’t tried the activities or the accomodation.

Location was very intereted in the middle of the old city, easy to reach.

I didn’t like the concept to increase the number of hours per days because we missed the holydays....it was to much. Better to pay less....

"A great experience that helped to improve my level of language and make some international friends"

Emilia Bazian, student from Afghanistan

This was my first trip to study abroad and I really liked it! I have been learning Spanish for three years at the university, I still needed a push to speak.
The first day I arrived, I was amazed with my apartment. Although, it was not big it was nice, with a balcony.
The location of the school is very convenient for people living at the residence, you just need to go downstairs and there it is. It is also close to the beach, so you do not even need to catch a train to get to the sea.

All the teaches are excellent! They have an individual approach almost for each person and from the first lesson they try to make you feel comfortable and communicate with the others.

Home stays offer you a unique opportunity to experience Spanish life while living in the home of a local Spanish speaking family. You'll speak Spanish all day long, out of necessity and fun and interest in the family life you see unfolding around you. Accommodation in a host family allows you to get the most out of your language course as it gives you a privileged view of daily life in another culture.

About home stay:

Your host "family" may be a family with parents and children or a single parent who takes in students because he or she enjoys the company. You wouldn't be the first to go out on the town together, or to keep in contact with your family after your return home.

We recommend you make a pact about speaking Spanish in the apartment; other shared languages often take students away from Spanish language practice.
