My week in Pozzuoli with HLI was for the week of 29 April thry 6 May.
I stayed at the home of Professora Teresa Del Sole in Giugliano in Campania, a suburb of Pozzuoli. This was a great home base from which to tour the entire Pozzuoli area which is loaded with spectacular destinations.
A car is necessary to get around in this area. My host family was very gracious in meeting all of my transportation needs to visit all of the historical sites. These sites were numerous and all very historical and many ancient. I had no idea that Pozzuoli is so full of so many of these sites:
1. Cumae and the archeological Park with a sanctuary to Apollo, and Jupiter, and the caves of Sibilia related to Virgil and the Aeneid.
2. The Anfiteatro of Flavio; the Macellum Temple of Serapidis; Rione Terra; Baia.
3. The Roman port of Cape Miseno and the Piscina Mirabilis.
4. Solfatara
5. The Lakes of Campi Flegrei.
6. Arco Felice
7. The Crater Lakes: Lago di Lucrino; Lago d'Averno; Lago del Fusaro.
8. Citta' Somersa in Baia.
This is the amazing thing about all of these well kept secrets.
And very important, my home cooked meals were truly a Neopolitan cuisine experience, reminding me of the many recipes that were similar to my Grandmother.
The lessons in Italian were well taught and organized, and reinforced by many lengthy conversations over the dinner table.
In my mind, this tour should be advertised to see all of the wonderful sites in Pozzuoli.
And to cap off my trip, Forza Napoli won the Scudetto, so my stay was enlivened by all of the celebrations.
