Our method:
Our courses strongly focus on communication. In every unit we practice the new knowledge (grammar, vocabulary...) right away in conversation exercises.
Furthermore we have an OUTDOOR CLASS once a week. In these classes we leave the school and have a class in real environments in the city (the market, a museum...). In these classes you are encouraged to speak with Spaniards, your colleagues and the teachers, practicing what you have learned during the week.
Our philosophy:
We beleive in a 24/7 linguistic and cultural inmersion. We organize 1/2 times a week cultural activities like city tours, excursions to nature, sport, theatre and movies...just so that you enjoy Gran Canaria with new friends and you keep practicing Spanish. We also offer you a great range of discounts in other schools in the city (like Surf or Flamenco) to help you get in touch with locals and enjoy your stay to the maximum.
Our teachers:
All our teachers are native speakers and have a university degree in Spanish Philology and/or Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language. We only hire teachers that enjoy our communicative teaching methods and understand that the goal is to not only to give you new knowledge but also to help you communicate in Spanish.

The school is located at the heart of the city, between the old town Vegueta and the central bus station. Students can take the bus which takes them to the wonderful city beach of Las Canteras in only 15 minutes. All classrooms have been recently renovated (end of 2017) and are equipped for the display of audiovisual materials. The location of the school is perfect for our Outdoor Classes every friday: in the old town, the traditional market...
Well organized, very good lessons, very committed teacher, nice, small group.

The trips to the Banana plantation and Arucas were very well organised and also the Museum trip was very interesting and well structured for us. The school was clean and efficient and well staffed and we found it quite easily. Yurena worked so hard to cater for my daughter’s needs as well as my own and we talked a lot in Spanish about cultural and historical things. She taught us 2 tenses. The level was perfect and she is a truly lovely person! The course book was expensive but we were allowed to share one, which helped, and it was very up to date and of the right level for adults. We booked a hotel separately, which was also wonderful. Thank you to Yurena, she is fantastic

You improve your Spanish and you're having fun in the same time !!
What I really liked, was every week, school organized trip out of Las Palmas and visited different place of the island!
But the best....were the teachers! They make you work in a good atmosphere, while studying playfully !
A big thanks to Yurena and Gabriel!
Classes were okay. Uyrena is a great teacher, although her subjects are sometimes not quite fit for grown ups.
Gabriel is not very accurate with his time…
Very friendly atmosphere, I met many people almost from all over and I had many opportunities to practise my spanish language. We always spoke Spanish.

The class size was just right, around 6-8 people, and the A1 teacher Eva was super encouraging, enthusiastic, and patient during the classes. One of the best teachers I've had in a long time! We always had a good flow to the classes with an engaging balance between different activities. The location of the school is fantastic too, close to the older town part of Las Palmas and with great transport and bike links; it's very convenient to get to and also many amenities nearby. Social activities each week were well organised and fun to experience Gran Canaria from more of a local's perspective.

I'm a Linguageteacher in my country so I can tell you: She is very creative, competent, funny and friendly. I love the way sie works. We have both a very similar methodology/way of teaching. And now, after this beautiful experience like a student from Yurena, I understand why my students are greatfull for my way of teaching from my ❤️. Yurena teach from her heart ❤️ as well.
I enjoyed every day the ☕️ break with all the teachers and students.
I would like to come again.
My class was small, just 3 students, location OK (20 minutes by bus from the apartment, but the cost of buses is low), activities very good - one guided trip each week - all in Spanish), housing comfortable. I was lucky to share with a young German who was happy to speak Spanish all the time. We never spoke any language except Spanish. This was enormously helpful, to both of us. Our teacher, Elisa, was excellent. Extremely helpful and competent.

The location is ideal in the centre of LS Palmas and the extra curricular trips very interesting and great fun.
Lessons are well structured, building on the fundamentals.
Overall, a great experience.
Well structured course, from the daily basics to the study of grammar. After a short time you already have the opportunity to practice what you have learned. Comfortable environment, wonderful teachers

The teachers are motivated and you quickly feel at home. There is a lot of emphasis on communication.
I have been able to brush up on some basic skills.
Extracurricular activities are offered about 2 times a week. This can be a meal together followed by a guided tour of the old town or a visit to the only coffee plantation or the rum factory.

I went to Gran Canaria for 6 weeks in the beginning of January to learn the language and to get to know the culture. I didn't learn Spanish at the school, so I started with nothing except with "gracias" and "hola". The start of my course wasn't what I expected at all. On the website it said that the courses were filled with about 6 or more people, but I was just with one person. But shortly after the "shock" we started to get to know each other and it was a very good experience. My teacher was really nice and even though it was a little bit difficult in the beginning to understand something, it was the best way it could have been. Everyday all of the courses had a break to go to a cafeteria near by, which was the best opportunity to get to know the others. Each week we had an excursion to learn more about the island every Thursday. With that I learned way more about the culture, history and in general about the island. Without a doubt I can say, that after these 6 weeks I explored nearly all of the island.
All in all it was an amazing experience where I got to know so many people and learned not just the language, but also more about myself and the island. I would highly recommend the "Academia El Capitán"because they made my experience so good.
I was learning Spanish with the Academia el capitán for about 4 weeks and it was definitely worth it! I was able to work on the grammar I was struggling with and really got better in it. I met so many new people from different countries, which was amazing! Everyone is just so kind, funny and chill there!! The lessons were great and always funny, and if you had any questions you could just ask.The school activities were always fun and you could learn something about the canary history , which I really liked. I really did have a great time there and I will definitely book another course there in the near future!! I seriously do recommend it!!

Teachers are very close to the students. So you feel relax to learn. I really highly recommend this school and team.
The school is located on the city center, easily accesable. Classes were adjusted to my level, in small groups and diverted. Teacher was very nice, well organizer and with positive energy. Also, the offer of additional activities was wide, diverted and very interesting letting students to use a language in practice. Contact with school was very good and the atmosphere very warm and welcoming. I strongly recommend the school

Every time we had a pause in our classes we went to a cafe in the area and continued speaking spanish. I found this really creative and fun. In addition to normal classes we had out-door classes each Friday, which were fun, and a really helpful and active way to learn. They were also making excursions, among others flamenco and hiking.
The location of the school was very central in Las Palmas. Easy to come buy bus or car. The rooms of the apartments the school rented out was really comfortable, had a good location, and were equipped with whatever you needed.
I'm really happy I got to experience this language school, the people working there and for all i learned. I would highly recommend it.
I been thinking quite a while in which school to choose a Spanish course, because is not a cheap investment for someone from center-east Europe. I chose Academia El Capitán and I do not regret my decision! I stay for 2 weeks and enjoy every day a lot, especially because we been a small group and could really do a lot and also thanks to our great teacher Reyes, who been always supportive & bringing so uplifting energy into the class. I especially like that we did not stay with one topic all day and she nicely change activities, so we could stay focus, which is in intensive course not easy task! The school is located very near by San Telmo, which is a biggest bus station easily accessible for everyone in Las Palmas. Even though sometimes the travel in guagua can be a bit adventures :) Facilities been sufficient and also is nice that there been some cultural program behind the "regular" Spanish classes. I would definitely recommend it!

The classes are small and it gives you time to practice the language as much as possible. They also organize great activities you can attend if you want to. The location was perfect for me, just walking distance from Vegueta, the old part of Las Palmas.

I visited the school in January 2018. There are places and times you won't forget. The lessons were very good (grammar refreshed, much conversation) . During excursions you will get a lot of information about culture, history, current life of the Canary Islands. Accommodation near sea , central and very beautiful! In short, I am enthusiastic about this school and I would like to thank again the management (Angel and Monika) !
I immediately registered for a continuing course. Great support, small groups and varied additional program. You learn the language and also a lot about the culture. Parts of the lesson take place "outdoor" in Gran Canaria's life ". A great concept. I took three courses right away.

Show details » Read more...my conclusion after 4 weeks of Spanish course (level A2): anytime again, the school not only does courses like many others. She offers to live in a small community near the beach during the course, taking you right into the heart of the city. Whether you go in the morning to the bakery around the corner, in the supermarket or just the neighbors in the house over the way. Zig small situations to practice the Spanish language skills. This is something else than staying in a pension or hotel, where everyone changes to English as soon as you want to put a few words.
The courses run near the old town of Las Palmas next to a lively pedestrian area with many cafes, where you can enjoy the daily break in nice weather, usually it is nice, together with a cup of coffee, a sweet piece or a sandwich.
My teacher (Reyes) was very attentive, always noticed, and when someone did not understand everything and explained patiently. However, you have to adapt to participants from different countries, is taught Spanish, only for once an English word. But is half as bad as long as the teacher does not pass at the speed of the locals. You can quickly get used to the Spanish language which is never possible at home.
Rounding off the language course through joint ventures such as trips to beautiful places on the island, cinema and theater visit (here it is then literally violent) and eat out in restaurants away from tourism. All this at a proportionate cost to a part of what you have to spend on booked excursions.
Seen in this way, the four course weeks were not just Spanish learning but an unexpectedly varied experience.
