Course description

International employers and universities often require TOEFL or IELTS scores for admission. The TOEFL and IELTS Test-Preparation courses help students build the skills, techniques and knowledge needed to succeed in these exams. The IETLS and TOEFL supplementary courses consist of 20 lessons of general English classes -- the building blocks for high scores -- 7 lessons of structured independent study, and 8 lessons of Exam Preparation lessons each week.

The Supplemental course includes 20 General English Lessons, 8 IELTS Preparation lessons, and 7 Structured Study Sessions.

Course topics

Teachers trained in test-preparation instruction will strengthen students' English and test-taking skills so that they can score higher on their exams. Test strategies are taught in class, and practice tests and vocabulary are built in class time, to improve each student's skills.

"Cool trip."

Noa MADEC, student from France

It was a cool trip, with great classes to get to know more about the IELTS Test and more generally about english even thought I already had a good level it still helped. The teachers were good too, however my house family wasn't the best location and people I've been with.

"Great, nice and pleasant time in Oxford!"

Eeva Peltoluoma, student from Finland

Classes were nice. I liked how small the group was. The teachers were interesting and easy to talk with.
As for the location, it was very good because the hotel I was staying at was just a 3 minute walk to Kaplan.
Facilities were very nice. I especially liked the table football.
What I didn't like was when ordering coffee, it took too much time.

"Lifetime experience"

Sarah Said Daoud, student from Djibouti

I met friends for life and amazing teachers, except for my host family, who weren't welcoming with me and my housemates. We didn't have breakfast, we were always tense, and they always made remarks on stupid things that became irritating at that moment.

"Very qualified teachers."

Melike Emirmahmutoglu, student from Turkey

Classes were nice. The number of the students were never above 12-13 students. Teachers were excellent. Their way to educate was excellent. I got the max benefit from 3 months in Oxford. Location was really good, it was very close to city center. I didn't have any problems about facilities and activities.

But if we had got the results of the level tests, it would've been very nice to see our faults and focus on them.

My biggest problem was about accommodation. I stayed in the mansion mews in Oxford. Firstly, I always stayed in a room with a broken radiator heater. The room was always cold. I had complained about this to reception for (maybe) 3 times, but it wasn't resolved, at the third time, I had found a very small heater fan in my room which wasn't enough to make the room warm.
I had lost my key just for one-time. I had to wait for one hour in the reception to fix the key (and it wasn't fixed), after the key has fixed it didn't work for many times I couldn't count. I had to go to Laura and she had to give me a key which works for all of the mansion mews and she always told me to give it to her...

"Fun experience"

Ted Wachtmeister, student from Sweden

I thought it was nice to get time off and study English at Kaplan. However, I did not learn very much. I think the main reason is because the classes were too short and the homework assignment were very boring and unnecessary. But it was a great experience in general. The teachers are good, the facilities are good. What you need to improve is the structure of the teaching course. Set up goals. Have teacher evaluations etc.

Visa support

We cannot apply for visas on behalf of students. However, the school can supply you with all the documentation you need to support your visa application.

If you are studying in the UK for over 11 months, you will receive a reference number called a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) that you need to submit to the UK embassy along with your General Student Visa application. Students who have successfully booked a language course and have paid their fees will receive a CAS from Kaplan International . Please note that UK law states that a CAS can only be issued to students who intend to pursue English language studies for over 11 months.

If you are studying in the UK for 11 months or less, you have to apply for a special visitor visa called a Student Visitor Visa. As a student visitor, you will not be able to work part-time while studying. If you plan to study in the UK for 11 months or less, a letter of acceptance will be sent to your home address by regular mail at no charge to you. If you wish to receive your paperwork by express mail, you will be charged £ 40 when you register.
