Course description

English through American Culture – Advanced 216 Hours per Term
(Prerequisite: eligibility for level 6 or above)

English through American Culture - Advanced consists of 3 classes: CMAR, CCC, FAC. This program is intended for advanced-level students who wish to focus on their ability to learn about American culture and converse in the English language. The individual courses present and reinforce everyday English skills, as opposed to the more academic English in the ESL program.

1st Class: Conversation Management and Accent Reduction (CMAR)
CMAR focuses on improving everyday, practical communication skills and practicing American English pronunciation in order to speak with confidence, clarity and effectiveness.

2nd Class: Cross-Cultural Communication (CCC)
The focus of CCC is on immersing the students in different “real life” situations in which they must communicate effectively. In this class, the students will act in a variety of contexts in order to learn how to deal with real situations in the English-speaking world, particularly with an American perspective. Students will do dialogues, improvisations, and acting in order to improve communication skills.

3rd Class: Focus on American Culture (FAC)
In FAC, students will study American short stories and articles to gain a uniquely American perspective on various issues and insights into American cultural norms. American English vocabulary from stories and articles will be used to discuss opinions on American culture and current issues in American society.

"I like the home environment."

Diana Catalina Poveda Romero, student from Costa Rica

The advantage that the school is small; it’s the relationship that you have with the teachers and staff. Ty is an excellent manager, he was interesting about the social activities and how to help the students.

I will recommended this school.

"Meet international cultures and experience the American way of life."

Sven Niklas Gülpen, student from Germany

Overall, my personal experience at LSI Orange County was very good.
My class was a small group of international students, mostly from Asia.
The atmosphere was very friendly all the time and I ran into a lot of new faces every day.
It's very easy to meet new people and start activities after school.
I had three different teachers and everyone was in his/her way, amazing.
They were very funny but still the teaching style was efficient.
The school offered many activities like a football tournament, a beach day, and meetings in the afternoon just for conversation about specific topics.

"It was great! The best holidays I've ever had!"

Olga Goman

I took the classes of Grammar, Speaking, and Reading. Classes were very interesting. Teachers teach not as in Russian schools; it's not boring. Teachers even can show you the meaning of the word.
School isn't so far from the dorm, only a 15 minute walk. School has free wi-fi, a computer class, and even a kitchen where you can have lunch. School hosts some parties such as beach party or BBQ.
What about housing. If you stay at the dorm, you would have free wi-fi, your shared room for 2 persons, kitchen with all facilities, living room, and back yard. At the dorm, there is a swimming pool. Moreover, there are many cafes like In-n-Out, McDonalds, and Jack in Box. Also, there are markets where you can buy whatever you need.
I really like Orange County, it is very nice place.

Visa support

We cannot apply for visas on behalf of students. However, the school can supply you with all the documentation you need to support your visa application.

If you are studying full time in the United States for more than 18 hours per week, you will receive an I-20 that you need to submit to the US embassy along with your F-1 student visa application. The I-20 has a SEVIS tracking number on it. Students who wish to apply for a student visa must pay the SEVIS fee online before going to the US embassy or consulate for their visa interview.

Your I-20 will be sent to your home address by regular mail at no charge to you. If you wish to receive your paperwork by express mail, you will be charged $100 when you register.

Please note that United States law states that an I-20 can only be issued to students who intend to pursue full-time English language studies. United States law does not permit students to study part-time with an F-1 Student Visa. If you are studying for less than 18 hours per week, you have to apply for a Visitor Visa (B1/B2) on your own.
