Karina was a wonderful tutor, and couldn't do enough for me. She is passionate about her home island of Bornholm and together we travelled round the island exploring its many attractions.
Most of my learning was done through conversation with Karina, and also some of her friends. She was very patient with me, speaking slowly and explaining things to me. As we travelled to various sights, I read many of the information boards, improving my pronunciation and ensuring that I understood them.
At home, I wrote a daily diary which Karina corrected for me, and I kept a vocabulary list. I also read some children's books, again improving pronunciation and understanding of what I was reading. I had a couple of my study books with me, which we looked at on some days. With hindsight, I might have preferred to spend a little more time on these each day.
I very much valued having a female teacher of about my own age.
The location on the island of Bornholm was fabulous, Karina's house was comfortable, and I had my own room at bathroom.
Karina is a good cook and prepared some lovely meals, including Danish specialities. We also visited some restaurants during the week.
I have given a 4* rating for Quality of teaching, because the teaching might have been a little more structured. Otherwise it is 5* all round!
My teacher was a very world opened and gently person and we talked a lot about anything. My Danish level was not good enough to just do everything in Danish so we talked a lot in English or some words in German, my native language. The classes were not very structured and either with a book, but he taught me about Denmark, about the history of Copenhagen and their culture, which was very interesting and helps a lot to understand this very nice sort of persons in Denmark. He gave me a lot of advices where to go and one day he road me with the bicycle through the city and showed me some nice places. I was there only for one week and had a very nice time!
Show details » Read more...My Danish language classes took place each morning. My teacher had prepared Danish exercises, which were valuable language practice, fun, customised to my learning interests. During our class we discussed the exercises, talked about many different topics in a relaxed setting
This was an excellent way to practice my listening and speaking skills. I brought questions or videos to our class or expressions that I had heard in Danish, and my teacher took the time to explain what those expressions means. This gave the course a personal touch. My teacher and I had common interests to talk about, which made the hours fly by!
