Trilingua Language Centre
For complete beginners: Alphabet and pronunciation of some words, further vocabulary of most frequently used words: numbers, days of the week, months - verbs adjectives and adverbs - Emphases on listening and pronouncing words correctly and frequent repetition of words - there will be short tests as we go along, before jumping onto something new - A slow but steady first step - improvement will start showing after a few hours of tuition - a very rewarding time for the keen complete beginner.
For those with a little knowledge of English: Assessment first, and once the level has been established we go from there, always according to the level and pace of the student. We call it 'student centred' - it's what feels comfortable with the student, a way which will encourage the student to enjoy learning and make lots of improvement through their own enthusiasm to learn!
Intermediate students: They can bring their own books if they wish, but if not, they are given the choice of books available in the class. There will be topics for conversation and a chance to speak to people over the phone and to have a chance to interview local students, or friends and family within the community. They will have a test at the end of their language course.
Advance students: We will have some debates over topics read from a newspaper or from the latest news of TV. There will be some reading of books of an A-Level standard, and more complicated ways of writing, play on words, proverbs, colloquialism, slang and many aspects of the English language will be discussed and fluency and correctness in the spoken English will be the greatest emphases. There will be a test at the end of this language course.

The school is detached from the Home-Stay house, but only three steps away through the garden, from the recreational area, into the main classroom. The main classroom accommodates up to 6 students very comfortably. There is a whiteboard, chairs, and desks, of course. There is plenty of natural light due to the windows and doors on every side of the classroom. The main door faces the garden in which students can go out for a short break in between English language sessions. THE TEACHING QUALITY: During the English language lesson there will be writing, reading, speaking and listening practice, but the emphases will be mainly on speaking the language. Tuition is carried out vividly and extra care is given to slow learners, by maintaining a relaxed pace and an understanding attitude towards each student. Fun learning is very important, therefore lessons are kept active and enjoyable through various interactive tasks to help improve their spoken English. There are outside activities in connection to the lessons as well. Tuition may be one-to-one or in twos, threes or groups of 4 or 6 at very the most. In this case, there are teachers assistants who can take over - this will be even more interesting for the students to get to know other new English tutors and practice their English with them. There will be an end-of-course test and a certificate will be given to each student.
The nationality and age mix at Trilingua Language Centre varies over different time periods, courses and levels. Throughout the year, the average age is 17. In the summer, the average age is 17.

Learn English and live in your private teacher's home in Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands. This is a very nice area with a lot of places of interest in the vicinity, one of which is Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare. In fact, included in at least one week's English tuition and accommodation is a half-day tour to Stratford-upon-Avon, included is also the visit of Shakespeare's house and museum. Also, in Sutton Coldfield, there are opportunities for many activities: walking in one of the largest parks in Europe, an outing to a centre called Star City where there are bowling, cinema, and many cafés and restaurants. Of course, you need to have some extra pocket money for you to participate in many activities. Sutton Coldfield is a nice little town, namely called The Royal Town of Sutton, due to its history in connections with royalties.
I had chosen a one-to-one course but in addition to the hours of my course I was also able to meet with students from another course, thus gaining an 'extra' in both basic learning and dialogue skills.
The teacher in conversations aimed at teaching the language often introduced interesting topics making the lesson more enjoyable. In addition to the course hours, the teacher organised activities outside the school to bring us face to face with local people in order to involve us in real-life situations.
The school is not located in the centre of Birmingham but in a quiet area. It is possible to visit the centre of Birmingham by public transport in just over 30 minutes.
It is still possible to reach shopping areas with many shops in a short time
From Monday to Friday morning, I had an English class with other students from different countries (France, Spain, Italy and Saudi Arabia) at the teachers' house. We wrote about the day before, we read and talked in english. In the afthernoon I played games and visited places with the teacher and the others students.
Show details » Read more...I was there for three months and it was incredible! I met a lot of people and most of them had become my friends, and we still keep in touch. The daily programmes were different every week and it wasn't an effort to wake up early to have classes because they were very fun and interactive. The funnest activity was the shops-activity lesson because we able to help each other and complete the activity at the same time. I visited a lot of places and I really enjoyed the trips. My teacher/ host mother Marlene and her husband were very pleasant and kind. I absolutely recommend this fantastic experience to everyone.
Show details » Read more...I attended Trilingua Language Centre three times. If I could, I would go there every year!
The family is so great! The teacher is very helpful and the lessons are different for everyone, and adapted to your level.
Sutton Coldfield is a small town, with shops and leisures, ideal for a foreign student! Trilingua House is 40min (in bus) away from Birmingham, the big city!
After everything, I will never forget the moments I had when I lived there!
I am so impatient to come back!
My response to Lucas: Hey, that's so nice of you to send us your review - thanks! It was always such a great pleasure to have you around at our home and attend my English classes, including the frequent tours we had together with other students. Your English is amazing now, you have improved so much. Keep up the good work. And, of course you are welcome to come again for advance English classes, and once more to experience yet an other stay in Sutton Coldfield. Thank you again Lucas for sending in your wonderful review. Keep in touch. I wish you lots of success for your next step in education - university! Please keep me posted with your progress. My very best wishes to you! Marlene.
I would need an entire book to describe my personal experience at Trilingua Language Centre. In short, back in 2008/2009, I spent one year in Sutton Coldfield; I was attending secondary school there as part of an abroad program. Although I had previously studied English, I could speak very very little of it, but already after two weeks I could notice a huge improvement. By the end of the year, I took 8 GCSES with top marks. The host mother, Marlene, can speak my mother tongue language, but she always spoke to me in English even when I had difficulties. This helped me massively!
My experience in Sutton was so positive that I then decided to go back to the UK to get a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, and now I am currently pursuing a PhD. This is all thanks to my English learning year at Trilingua Language Centre! I would recommend it to anyone whose first priority is to learn English and experience English culture and tradition.
My response to Anna Varone:
Thank you so much for showing your appreciation and for recommending Trilingua Language Centre to anyone who is aiming at experiencing English culture and traditions, but most of all to learn English, so that one day they could be successful like you! You were an excellent student then, and still showing your excellence now as a higher education student at university doing a PhD. Congratulations!

Please note that UK law states that a CAS can only be issued to students who intend to pursue English language studies for over 11 months.
If you are studying in the UK for 11 months or less, you have to apply for a special visitor visa called a Student Visitor Visa.
