Course description

The Kings Advanced Level Foundation is a uniquely rigorous one-year pre-university programme.

The Kings Advanced Level Foundation is based on A-level syllabuses, taught by A-level teachers, assessed against A-levels and moderated by an independent Advisory Board of external examiners. As such, it is one of the most highly academic and successful pathways to leading UK universities.

Academic: Completed 11-12 years of schooling
English: IELTS 5.5 or equivalent (students with lower language levels can join an extended programme of 4 – 7 terms from IELTS 4.0)

The programme is highly flexible, and able to adapt to the needs and academic aspirations of each student. It does this through a combination of core modules and a series of elective modules which can be combined in different ways to create main subject streams.

Core subjects
These form the basis of all Advanced Level Foundation pathways.

They give you the vital platform you need to acquire subject specific knowledge.

Communication and Study Skills
Data Handling and Information Technology
Elective subjects
Choose three subjects from a range of electives.

Like A-levels, subject modules can be combined in any way according to your strengths, interests and degree entry requirements.

We will advise you on the best subject combination for your intended degree.

You can choose combinations which are not 'typical', for example Maths, Art and Physics, but which might be the best path to your specific degree.
Assessment
Students are assessed at the end of each term and the results of each assessment go towards the final grade:

Term 1 Assessment: 30%
Term 2 Assessment: 35%
Term 3 Assessment: 35%

"A very good experience"

Javier Fernandez, student from Spain

the classes and the teachers are all very good, the activities too and it is an easy place to get to. I liked everything, the only thing that didn't, is that there were some days when some did some activities and others did others, and it doesn't make any sense, I think we should have had the same ones, but removing that, all very very well

"Learning the language through the culture and the native people."

Aloys Mussard

First of all, the location of the school is really good. Only 30 minutes to get to central London. Moreover this area is calm and welcoming. We can find a sport centre, park, pub and shops nearby which is really convenient for our daily routine.

Classes: When I arrived I was integrated into the intermediate level which was too easy for me (bad test maybe?). The teacher was great; she could explain grammar very well and she played the action in front of us. Then I moved up to the upper intermediate level. That was an intensive class for me. I learned a lot and improved my English skills.
The goal of my trip was to get into the advanced class, which I did, and I took the IELTS exam.

The activities were well-organised with a competent and funny staff. Good to go on.

My host families were both really nice and welcoming.

"I could never imagine that I would have the time of my life studying!"

Deoclécio Manoel de Souza Júnior

During my five-month stay at Kings London with my kind host family and lovely friends that I met over there, I was well-treated in every way you can imagine.

Each obligation was fulfilled by the host family. Also the staff and even the principal of Kings have a friendly, helpful and personal approach, which means, you can focus your efforts on learning English.

I could say that the teachers at Kings know how to extract your best by observing you and working out any weaknesses you may have. They are also professional, friendly and very comprehensible in any situation you may have.

Specifically, I attended English + Law. All I learnt was above and beyond my predictions. This was due to having more than theory, vocabulary and word meanings. Actually we lived the "legal world," - going to various courts in London through monitored visits. Furthermore, we had several debates in class concerning global legal matters which came from people from all over the World. I had an impressive improvement of my general and legal English skills.

Having fun? Follow the Kings Social Programme "mate". It is a great opportunity to make friends and practice your English. And you might fall in love as well, as I did. I strongly recommend King’s Social Programme. It is an opportunity to have a good time!

Thanks Kings, thanks my friends, thanks London and thank you very much LIFE!

Outstanding, I am working for a Law Firm which covers almost all legal areas. Specifically, I am in the Domestic and International Tax Department. The law firm is based in Sao Paulo and also has got subsidiaries in Washington D.C., New York, Düsseldorf and Shanghai.

Thank you very much Sam for that opportunity.

Best wishes from Brazil,
Deoclécio Júnior

"It was probably the best experience of my life."

Maithreky Sinnathamby

I met some people that I will never forget, especially one. You wake up every day and you don't know what will happen, whereas In my country every day is similar. Teachers are really good; they helped with my last exam and I passed it! The only negative thing for me was my home. I lived in my cousin's home about one and a half hours from school; it was a really long travel. Activities were also good!

"Kings London is a place you want to come back to!"

IGOR KORKIN

I would like to say many warm words about Kings London, and especially I would like to say thanks to three teachers who worked with me a lot and tell you about how lucky I was at Kings.

Learning English in the morning is always difficult, but Michelle Monks creates exciting and useful lessons every day. They helped me to understand ‘Passives’ and move up to Intermediate class. Thank you Michelle!
I want to thank Rachel King for the film about London, which showed another London to me and helped to learn ‘used to’ construction. The film was so good that I even recorded it on my iPhone!
I was also extremely lucky to have one-to-one lessons with Benjamin Stein. He helped me to prepare slides, a speech and improve pronunciation for my future presentation. He also encouraged me to pay attention to intonation, word endings and articles. I promise I will not forget them, Ben!

A lot of wonderful people work at Kings; that’s why I can continue this list with pleasure, but will leave it to my next time.
