Language Surfing is an innovative way of teaching based on ‘linguistic immersion’.
It takes elements from Spanish Culture and Barcelona itself in order to accelerate the learning process.
Classes are taught by native and professional trainers, and they take place mostly in urban areas of Barcelona
such as art galleries, cafés, shops, museums, parks, and other places in which language is ‘alive’ and used every day.
Our task is to ensure that the student, through theoretical and practical training, could explore the world of the Spanish language and the different realities of Barcelona.
Using the city as our language lab, we practice the knowledge acquired in our theoretical classes and are constantly provided with new conversation topics and opportunities for expanding vocabulary.
It is the end of boring and traditional lessons!
Because we strongly believe that the best thing to do with language is to put it into practice!
The most effective and dynamic way of learning a foreign language is to use it in real circumstances,
with native speakers and not only stuck in the classroom!
An important part of the Language Surfing work philosophy is the use of the Internet and new technologies, which provide a wide variety of opportunities to explore the language. Multimedia resources, apps, blogs, YouTube videos, social media memes, tutorials, etc. are a great chance to find out more about the Spanish language and its culture.
The nationality and age mix at Language Surfing varies over different time periods, courses and levels. Throughout the year, the average age is 30. In the summer, the average age is 25.

Language Surfing is located in the "Eixample" neighborhood in the heart of the city centre. It is close to Plaza España and Sants train station and never more than a short walk away from the major attractions in Barcelona such as Pl. Cataluña or Las Ramblas. Our facilities include free WI-FI, CDs, books, magazines, self-study materials and coffee. However, our classes take place not only in the classroom but also outdoors, while exploring Barcelona, visiting places where the language is 'alive', looking for interaction with locals and discovering the coolest corners that are not on guide books.
Language Surfing specializes in small groups or one-on-one sessions, with learning taking place in a variety of locations (universities, monuments, museums, cafes, etc.) around Barcelona. I took a one week course, with a four hour session every day, and ended up by chance one-on-one with one teacher on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and the other on Tuesday and Thursday. The teachers were excellent, providing technical feedback while proving to be a fountain of knowledge about Barcelona and its culture. I came home every day physically exhausted (from walking considerable distances around the city) and mentally drained (from keeping a conversation going for four hours in Spanish), but it was totally worthwhile.
One teacher had a personal emergency one day and had to cancel, but Language Surfing stepped in. They would have replaced it with another session if we were in Barcelona even one extra day, but when we couldn’t stay, they offered two online music and culture sessions instead. These were excellent as well.
I would strongly recommend Language Surfing to anyone looking to increase their confidence in their verbal skills and to heighten their awareness of the culture of Barcelona.
Language school with really skilled teachers, who make my language course fun and personal. I have so much fun, even when I struggle with the grammar and vocabulary!
Teaching is unconventional, inspiring and motivating. I love that I am both learning grammar and expanding my vocabulary with focus on the subjects, that interest me. And I love, that a huge part of the classes takes place on the streets, at museums and other places, that I like in Barcelona. That makes the classes more relevant, funny and motivating.
The highly skilled teachers, Martyna and Rebeca, encourage me to speak as much Spanish as possible, even though my vocabulary is still limited. It has made me more brave and less focused on the fear of failing.
I learn more spanish at Language Surfing, than I have done in any other language school, because the teachers makes it so personal and funny. And you choose yourself how much homework you want.
The school is located at a very central part of Barcelona, so it is easy to visit all the city's exciting places while learning languages.
Language Surfing has a brilliant concept, engaged and specialized teachers, and I have only positive things to say about the school. If you are tired of conventional classes and books, you should try it!
