At the southeastern tip of the Arabian Peninsula lies the Sultanate of Oman. With newly-built and ever-improving infrastructure, as well as a safe and stable government, going to Arabic school in Oman is a smart decision. While the cityscapes may be changing fast, the friendly and down-to-earth nature of Omani citizens has remained intact. This is best seen in the capital city of Muscat, where you can visit the Grand Mosque and then eat with the locals, enjoying fresh dates served with khawa (Omani coffee). Oman is most famous for its 500 forts and towers that were built to deter potential invaders and many are conveniently located near the capital, including the 16th century Jalali and Mirani forts. For exploring outside the city, the easiest and fastest transportation is by 4x4 vehicle and many tours are available to assist. Drive through dried-up wadis to the ancient tombs of Gaylah, view the giant rolling dunes at Wahiba Sands and be amazed by the 7 miles of defensive walls at Bahla Fort. Get up close and personal with leatherback sea turtles at Masirah Island, where they use the Omani beaches as a protective breeding ground. The desert climate may be mostly hot and dry, but the epic coastline and rugged landscape will put you in awe and the pristine wilderness is practically designed for star-gazing. It may be off the beaten track, but offers every amenity needed, so taking Arabic courses in Oman should be an easy decision.
