What could be better than digging into freshly made hummus as you watch soft waves lap the Mediterranean shoreline? Go to Arabic school in Lebanon and you could make this your daily pursuit with all the friendly locals. In fact, most of Lebanon's big cities and towns are adjacent to the sea, including the capital Beirut. Breaking out from its war-beaten past, Beirut is now the place to be in the Middle East. Sip the finest Turkish coffee and smoke nargileh in one of the many Corniche cafes, see and be seen on Ramlet al-Bayda beach, and going clubbing with international students in Gemmayzeh or Achrafiye. History and religions are as rife as partying, as can be seen at the Al-Omari Mosque, Maghen Abraham Synagogue, and St. George's Cathedral. End a long day of sightseeing with a plate of delicious seafood at the charming seaside villages of Byblos and Jounieh. Alternatively, drive up to Cedars of Lebanon State Park for a picture-perfect sunset over the Mediterranean. In winter, this is also one of the only places in the Middle East you can strap on skis and a snowboard. Beirut's museums are extremely informative, but nothing compares to the living museums scattered throughout the country. Visit the remains of the Roman Temples of Bacchus, Venus and Jupiter in Baalbek, see the Lion Tower in Tripoli, and walk through the fortified city of the Umayyad dynasty in Aanjar. Take Arabic courses in Lebanon and start weaving your own personal history.
Combining notions of Classical Arabic and Levantine dialect, this course is tailored for anyone wishing to learn the language and interact with the Lebanese environment. We consider that Arabic needs to be practiced on a daily basis to encourage and motivate the student to communicate, for this purpose a combination of Dialect and bases of Modern Standard Arabic is a must.
